UPDATE - READ: The
Mitty is almost here and we're expecting quite a few Minis/members
from CMU!! Here are some things to know:
1. Get your Mini parking pass at Will Call. Tell them you are with
CMU and you need a parking pass for your classic Mini. They will
look out the door to make sure you have one, so please have it
there. Please don't abuse this as we only get so many passes and
it won't be fair to those with classic Minis if we run out of
passes.
2. CMU will have a classic Mini car corral that will be used as a
base for displaying the Minis and getting together. When you go
over the bridge into the infield, we should be close by. Look for
the CMU banner. The banner will be the entrance into the corral.
If you're not in a classic Mini you won't fit under the banner!
3. We are hosting a classic drive on Saturday morning thanks to
Bruce Baker! This is for Minis and any car that is 1980 or older.
The limit is 50 cars. We will start lining up at the CMU corral
around 8am so all of the Minis are in line before the
"others" arrive. Cars must be in line by 8:30. DRIVERS
MEETING at 8:45. Leaving at 9:00. This will be a back roads drive
that will last about 1 1/2 hours. We will be back in time for our
next fun time... You will miss some race practice/qualifying, but
you will have a CMU great time.
4. 11:45 we will leave the CMU corral and go line up for the
MG/Mini parade laps.
5. Sunday morning we might get some more parade laps during the
quiet time from 10-12. We'll find out more when we are there. Feel
free to call my cell phone if you have any questions,
321-890-9888.
We'll see you at the Mitty!

CMU is going to The Mitty! 2013
is a busy year, but after a great invitation from Classic
Motorsports Magazine to bring the club out to exciting
vintage/historic races at one of the most beautiful race tracks in
North America, we had to say yes! This long running event is held
at Road Atlanta from April 25-28. Most CMU members will be there
the 26-28. Road Atlanta has been home
to the Classic Motorsports Mitty since its inception, and
there’s no better place or time to enjoy a motorsports daydream
with action both on and off the track. HSR
handles the on-track action, while the Classic Motorsports staff
organizes the infield festivities.
David Hobbs will be the grand marshal. He has
raced nearly everything: Can-Am, Indy, Formula 1, Formula 5000,
Trans-Am, NASCAR, IMSA GTP, IROC and so much more. In recent
years, he has anchored America's Formula 1 TV coverage.
The 2013 Mitty’s featured marque will be MG.
Don't forget your earplugs because there will be a reunion of the
classic Can-Am race series. And again thanks to HSR,
you’ll see all your favorite food groups at speed: Shelby,
Porsche, Triumph, Jaguar, MG, Alfa Romeo, Corvette, BMW, Mini (of
course), Mazda, Nissan and so many more.
That’s not the only fanfare scheduled for the
weekend. The Mitty’s infield will feature car club corrals, free
test drives, tech talks, magazine project cars, evening socials
and so much more.
Here's the CMU scoop:
- The 3 day pass is $45pp in advance with free parking for all
classic Minis (Do not buy the parking pass!) When you arrive at
the gate in a classic Mini they will let the car in for
free.
- CMU will have a car corral for all classic Minis.
- We will get some "parade" laps on the racetrack.
- We are planning on a traditional CMU drive sometime on Saturday
to see the beautiful surrounding area. We're waiting for the
schedule to be released to make sure this is possible and when.
- Classic Motorsports Magazine is offering a
free autocross on Sunday if there is enough interest. Please
contact Mike
Guido if you are interested.
- Go HERE
to order your tickets. Do not buy the parking pass if you're
coming in a classic Mini!
Hotels: Due to the size
of the event we were unable to get a block of rooms at an area
hotel. Road Atlanta is at 5300 Winder Highway (53), Braselton,
Georgia 30517. The track is between Braselton and Oakwood on 53,
these would be the places to start looking. Click HERE
to see your options and the
surrounding area.
Camping: There is
on-site camping for tents and motorhomes. You will see the option
when purchasing your tickets.
PLEASE
email Mike
Guido and
give him a head/Mini count so we can organize the size of
everything. Plus we'll have an email base to let you know the CMU
plans for the weekend. If we don't hear from you, we can't contact
you.
