Founded in 1997, Mid
Atlantic Minis is a group of classic Mini
owners based in southeastern Virginia, with members from as
far south as the Carolinas, and as far north as New York. We
have no newsletter, no web site, no monthly meetings, no
bylaws and best of all, no dues. We communicate through the
use of our club email list. Our typical annual
activities include scenic drives, attendance at or
participation in British car shows, autocrosses, vintage
sports car races, and assisting one another with Mini
related mechanical issues. Membership in MAM
and participation in our events is free, and is limited to
classic Minis and variants only.
In 2009 MAM proudly became a Chapter of
Classic Minis United (CMU). If any
CMU member would like to join MAM or if you would
simply like to obtain additional information about MAM or
our events, please contact Howard Collins at miniac7@aol.com

The 3rd annual
Mid-Atlantic
Mini's - Turkey Run 3!
Here's the story.
This years route
started
out from Cooper Tune in Hampton, Virginia with 12 classic
Mini's, with participants coming from as far away as
western North Carolina and the Delaware peninsula. After
our usual morning meet and greet over coffee and donuts we
got underway, with one participant dropping out due to
mechanical issues not long after the start. We later heard that
both car and driver made it home safe and sound. A couple more
participants separately dropped out as we progressed up the road
due to other commitments. We had clear blue skies and temps in
the 40's and 50's the entire day. Round trip beginning and
ending in Hampton, the event encompassed about 240 miles,
with 7 hours of driving time, not including our planned
stops.
|
We traversed roads less traveled through a dozen cities
and counties making up the areas of eastern Virginia known as
the Virginia Peninsula, the Middle Peninsula and the
Northern Neck.

Thanks
goes out to all who participated, including Steve who again
opened up his shop doors and hosted us at the start. Neal gets
the long distance haul award for coming all the way from
Asheville, NC. His navigation skills thru the twisties is what
kept us on course all day. John McGee gets the hard charger
brass balls award for finishing up his "smokin" Clubby
Estate just the night before the event, then driving down to
Hampton in the dark from Northern Virginia, and driving it back
home directly from the event route. We were happy to hear later
the next day that he had made it home without incident. Thanks
goes out to Harvey for leading us on a very spirited run through
parts of Mathews and Middlesex Counties prior to the lunch stop.
And last but not least, a special and big THANK YOU again goes
out to Ron Jernigan at Sussex Screen Printing (http://www.sussextees.com
) for coming down from the Delaware peninsula to participate,
and for designing and supplying the event tee-shirts, which he
graciously gave away free to the participating drivers.
We're looking
forward to seeing you at the next MAM event!
